The twentieth century witnessed unprecedented progress in various basic and applied sciences, which in turn resulted in discoveries, inventions, and research related to all aspects of life, whether vital, agricultural, industrial, or others. With the entry of the third millennium, with its contents and directions, and the formation of political and economic spaces, it has become a necessity for all countries. The world must keep pace with these scientific developments and strive to build a solid foundation that enables it to compete in the global market and ensure its economic sovereignty. Perhaps the only way to achieve this goal is to improve the level of education and scientific research, especially for third world countries. Our era has been called the “genomic era” due to the revolution that scientific progress has brought about in the field of molecular biology in its various biological, agricultural, medical, industrial and environmental applications. (such as insulin), vaccines, and crop plant improvement. Scientific progress in the field of molecular biology also led to the development of plant, animal, and human tissue culture techniques and their applications, in addition to techniques for studying microorganisms such as viruses and bacteria, and employing the results obtained from these researches to protect humans from microorganisms. On the other hand, it should be noted the need to control and monitor these and other techniques and direct them in the right path to limit the damages that may result from misuse or negligence. In the context of the endeavor of most countries of the world to establish research centers that would lay the correct and realistic foundations for scientific research, Libya established the Biotechnology Research Center in 2000 affiliated with the National Office for Research and Development, and seeks to develop scientific research in Libya and exploit its available applications in various fields of biotechnology. From this standpoint, we decided to place in the hands of researchers and specialists this guide for the Biotechnology Research Center, which clarifies its objectives, available capabilities, and scientific qualifications that would keep pace with scientific development and advance scientific research in the field of biotechnologies, and invite them to work on implementing their ideas and proposals. in various fields of biotechnology.
